I read a report recently that was prepared by Savills Estate Agents. This report suggests a quarter of all London homes that would be hit by the Labour supported "mansion tax" are in Labour constituencies.

I see this as a potential problem for Labour, especially in marginal seats. Naturally, some Labour MPs, candidates and local councillors are worried that the proposed tax on properties worth more than £2m could unfairly target their constituents and deter people from voting Labour.

Personally, I am not convinced that a ‘Mansion Tax’ will come to fruition but if the Labour voters that could be hit by such a tax  believe it could come to the statute books, then will those voters be swayed to vote differently?

The crucial question is whether the tax was designed to be a significant revenue raiser or a playing field leveller. I know that there will be many people watching with interest.
